¡¶Where Should We Go¡· is the first long-term project organized by Jeju Museum of Contemporary Art. With the forest surrounding the museum as the background, this is a new exhibition style aiming to show the process of assimilation sesitivity and memorable experiences to people through associations with the village neighboring the museum. ¡¶Where Should We Go¡· is also prepared as an extension of the 'Art Jeoji' project.

This exhibition consists of the works of sculptor Lee Seung Soo. The exhibited works titled <Where Should We Go>, the same as the exhibition title, comprise six sculptured groups created from waste and cement alongside six group works created using Jeju volanic rock. The works were first created with a critical mind on 'development and preservation', the contradictory issue faced by Jeju Island faces, and we were submitted to the 2019 Busan Sea Art Festival. This exhibition is unconventional in that changes in the artworks can be observed through the passage of time. Both the restorative force of nature and its process of healing will be recorded. This long-term exhibition will last about five years in the forest. This will be an opprtunity to reflect on environmental problems, major issues of the present day, through groups of sculptures that will change as we assimilate with natural objects, and moss and small plants grow on them as time passes.

Visitors to the museum will see vividly how the groups change as time goes by season after season, year after year. Hopefully, it will provide the chance to deeply sympathize with an awareness of the 'coexistence of life and nature.'

‘New Rising Artist’ is a newly planned exhibition to introduce the artistic world and creative energy of emerging young artists as the first exhibition of 2020. The participating artists for <Incomplete Flower> New Rising Artists, Kang Juhyeon, Kim Kanghoon, Kim Seonil, and Jwa Haesun, are all under the age of 40 and active in the fields of painting and sculpture.

Kang Juhyeon focuses on sculptural work reflecting the new ‘stereoscopic photograph’ form and the expansion of contemplation. Kim Kanghoon uses eye-catching screens to unfold narratives relating to relationships experienced in the world. Kim Seonil depicts portraits of modern people through the traditional figurative sculpture of powerful human figures. Jwa Haesun contemplates the fundamental questions of human existence by painting ‘meal’, ‘human body’, and ‘the boundary situation between safety and unsafety’. These artists have continuously created works with specific colors and stories within the traditional genres of painting and sculpture.

The title ‘Incomplete Flower’ means the diverse fruits generated from incomplete existence. It also refers to incompletion and instability beyond the lexical meaning of ‘unfinished’ or imperfection. This exhibition displays works that unfold the diverse traces of incompleteness that derive from the novel direction beyond pre-existing artistic norms, our simple everyday lives, and our various relationships. This exhibition, therefore, will be a special opportunity to earnestly reflect on how incompleteness blossoms in our life.
